SAMPLE LETTER
Thank you for Mecklenburg County's long-term support for public green spaces. As you know, parks and greenways plays a critical role in the County's economic development and quality of life. They contribute to clean air and water, connect people to nature, improve physical and mental health, and build stronger neighborhoods by creating community and offering alternative transportation.
However, as you are aware, to continue to thrive and attract people and business, Charlotte-Mecklenburg needs to continue investing in parks and greenways, which deserve a stable financial footing that would be provided by a designated public funding source.
I encourage you to support placing before Mecklenburg County voters on the November 2019 ballot, the option to increase the sales tax by a quarter cent.
Many of Mecklenburg County's greenways are a part of and are critical to advancing the Carolina Thread Trail, a planned 1,600-mile regional network that will connect Mecklenburg to surrounding counties.
Without this new source of funding, our parks and greenways cannot meet the needs of our growing population. Thank you for supporting and providing access to nature for all.
